Mothers & Mental Health| Week 11 |Calm&Collected

Motherhood 2

Meet Calm&Collected from Mississippi!

6

Hi there! Everyone welcome Calm&Collected! How are you feeling today mama?

I am feeling pretty good, but I am ready to go home for the weekend to see my girl. I travel back and forth to school.

How many children do you have? Would you like to share how old?

If I had a boy on the first try, I would be okay with just my 3yr old (she is technically my step child) and the baby. I do not want more than three.

How old were you when you had your first child?

NA, but I became a stepmother at 21.

What first comes to mind when you think of mental health?

A struggle and something you have to work on every single day.

Do you suffer from any mental illnesses yourself?

I struggle with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and subsequent depression. However, my depression is also linked to vitamin deficiencies (b12 and D0).

How was your mental health before you became a mama? How has motherhood changed or improved your mental health?

I think I am more motivated to take care of myself for her.

How do you self care?

Baths, Epsom salts, essential oils, face masks, hair masks, and I also see a counselor to vent.

Do you have any stories you’d like to share?

I highly recommend having your vitamin levels checked before you start a brand new or change antidepressants. If you have deficiencies, antidepressants won’t solve the issue. Your body needs vitamins. This happened to me last fall.

Advice for other mamas…

Don’t be scared to fall for someone with a child from a previous relationship. Yes, it is hard, but it is also beautiful to love someone else’s baby like your own.

& Lastly…

I know things will be different when I have my own child, but my daughter will always have a special place in my heart because I loved her first.

Let’s lighten it up!

What’s your drink of choice?

Moscato or a Sangria!

Do you have a favorite book, movie, or TV show?

TV: Grey’s Anatomy, The Office. Book: Girl, Wash your Face.

What’s the cutest thing your kid has done?

When we got engaged, baby girl was so excited and wanted to try on my ring. Then, she wanted to put it on my finger like her daddy did. It was precious.

Salty or sweet?

Sweet for sure. I loveeee dessert.

Pet Check!!!!

We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Here’s a pick of one:
