I don’t know about you but with the virus still lingering around, it’s hard to do certain activities with my little one. So I always try to find fun indoor activities for Isaiah that he can enjoy. Since my boyfriend and I have been so into our art (which you can check out by clicking here) we thought it would only be right if Isaiah had some art too. So far all of the art around our apartment has been made by us which makes it extra special.
I got this awesome idea from Hello Wonderful for edible and taste safe “paint” for babies and toddlers. We decided to test it out our selves.
What you’ll need:
- Popsicle sticks
- Silicone mold
- Canvas or anything to paint on
- Whipped cream
- Food color gel
Directions:
1. First, you’ll need bowls or plates to mix together your whipped cream and food color gel. I only had 4 colors so I just used 4 foam plates. Easier cleanup!
2. Add as little or as many dollops of food coloring. It depends on how dark or light you want your colors. I enjoy the pastel-like shades so we didn’t add too much.
3. Add your “paint” to the mold. To add the popsicle sticks, secure it with a bit of cling wrap. We clearly don’t have any so I improvised and ripped open a zip lock bag. Freeze until firm. We were being impatient and only froze it for an hour and a half. I should’ve prepped ahead of time. The blog post suggests freezing overnight.
Here are the finished paint popsicles. I kind of messed with some in the middle of the freezing process… oops. The whipped cream wasn’t meant to hold its shape so regardless it would melt pretty quick anyway. It can easily be turned into finger painting!
Isaiah immediately put it in his mouth! By the way, we used dairy-free whip cream for Isaiah since he has issues with milk.
He also got really upset when we tried to take them away!
Here is the finished masterpiece!
Thoughts
I think this was a really fun project for him. We enjoyed watching him have fun with the different textures and tastes. He’s never had anything this sweet before! For the most part, it was a tasting game for him. This definitely works and I would come back and try it again in the future. Next time I will freeze them overnight so they aren’t as fragile.
Do you do arts and crafts with your baby? If so what do you guys do? I’m always looking for more fun things to do with him. No kids? Thats okay. What type of crafts do you like to do? If any. Let me know in the comments below!

This looks like a super fun craft! I love the name you gave your son – so cute! ♥️
My daughter is really into play doh right now. I have yet to try making homemade play doh and have saved a few interesting pins for a rainy day.

What a great idea! I will have to try that with my son! For mess free days I put dollops of paint in a gallon size zip lock bag and let him mush the colors together.

This is such a good idea! Will be trying it with my daughter as I am running out of ways to keep her entertained these days! Usually, I get out the crayons and paper but she get bored very quickly so this will be a fun way to keep her busy. Thankyou for sharing 🙂
