5 Ways I Decompress After Work

What are you doing this evening?

I was inspired by my good friend Pooja from Lifesfinewhine to try one of these WordPress prompts with my own little twist. So what am I doing this evening, you ask? Let’s be real, after a long day of work, I don’t really want to do much. Almost every job has its stressors, that are impossible to escape. So, this evening, I’m going to share 5 ways I decompress after work.

1. Listening to good music

It all starts with the ride home. I love to raise the volume and jam out as if I were in the shower. They always say music is good for the soul. One of my favorite songs at the moment is Sprinter by Central Cee featuring Dave. #UKvibes

2. Sitting in the car for a few minutes

If it’s been a super long day, I’ll pull into the driveway and just sit in my car for a few minutes. This is the perfect time to catch your breath after not only work but that awful rush hour traffic as well. No music is necessary, just peace and quiet.

3. Taking in family time, asking about their day

If you’re a mom like me, then when you go inside the work never ends. But, for the time being, I like to get that idea out of my head and find out how the boy’s day went. It’s a way to deflect from work and also the perfect conversation starter. My 3-year-old loves to tell me all that he did in a day. Now he even asks me about mine!

4. Writing about it

You can never go wrong with letting your thoughts out visually. Whether it’s pen to paper or finger to phone, let it all out. This can help release any unwanted emotions as well as help you to process them.

5. Exercise

Exercise is one of the most effective ways to burn off some steam. It reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol. While also working to produce the body’s natural pain killer and mood elevator, endorphins. Aside from that, it’ll leave you and your body feeling great.

Keep in mind
It doesn’t have to be an intense 45-minute cardio session. I’ve found joy in 10-minute yoga sessions as well. Do what makes you feel good.

Why is it important to decompress after work?

It’s so important to keep a healthy balance between work and your home life. This will bring peace to the brain after a long day of work. Which in the long run will allow you to focus a lot better and prepare for an even better new day.

I know there are tons of other ways to unwind after work. Let me know what works for you in the comments below!
