As a new mom, it’s hard to find time to do things for me. It’s so easy to forget about yourself when you have a tiny little human to care for. Or maybe you aren’t a new mom. Maybe you’re a college student or a really busy carpenter. Whoever you are and whatever the case, taking care of yourself first is essential. How else can you live a happy and healthy lifestyle? Below I am going to share with you guys some different ways that help boost MY mood. Not everything works for everyone so make sure to leave a comment telling others some methods that help YOU feel better!
Go for a drive
There are so many benefits to going for a drive. You can listen to music which is an amazing way to let off some steam. I can always use a sing-along session. If the weather permits, you can lower the windows and enjoy the fresh breeze and maybe even the sun. Lastly, you can go almost anywhere. Which brings me to my next idea!
This may be a good or bad idea for some. If you are too upset to drive, please don’t. Yourself and others can be at risk. Drive responsibly!
Take a walk with a view
Who doesn’t love a good view? As cheesy as it sounds, just sitting and soaking in nature can be so soothing. Recently I had a very off day. I was not happy and I felt so numb. I decided to go for a drive and I ended up at Garret Mountain. I went to the tippy top, sat on a bench, and just enjoyed the view. This is also a perfect spot for walking if you’re in New Jersey. I’m lucky enough to live near somewhere like this but if you don’t you can take a walk in the park or maybe even find a trial.
Write a short story
The most amazing thing about writing is you can do it anywhere, at any time, about anything. There are no limits to your writing. Whether it be on a piece of paper or on the Notes app on your phone, you have the option to create any story you want. Let your mind wander and get creative. Have fun and make it your own. My Notes app would definitely be one of my most used.
Watch Emmymadeinjapan
Emmy has a voice so soothing, you won’t want to leave her channel. I am so happy I discovered her channel last year. I just so happened to stumble upon an MRE video and couldn’t stop since. Her channel is dedicated to trying different types of foods, gadgets, recipes and so much more from different time periods and around the world. She’s informative, fun, and so stinking cute. She can brighten up anyone’s day. I highly recommend you check her out.
Cook a nice meal
Yup, that’s right. Cook a whole meal and really put some thought into it. Find that really nice recipe you’ve been dying to make and go for it. Gather all of your ingredients, maybe even pour a glass of wine, turn on your music and begin. Not only will you have a good time preparing it but the end results will be even better and it will also feel rewarding to have cooked yourself something so nice.
Put on a face mask
Ooh-la-la let’s pretend we’re at the spa. No? Just me? Okay… No, but seriously, why not pamper yourself. My mom and I used to do clay masks together and those were some of my favorite times. Tonight I plan on doing a unicorn mask one of my best friends gave me!
Clean up and organize
Since becoming a mom, I HAVE to find something to clean every day. Not even when I was pregnant did I have the urge to clean this much. I probably “nested” about 3 or 4 times. I did not have an active pregnancy. Ha! Anywho, cleaning gives me a rush. I even find myself cleaning because I’m bored sometimes. It’s a safe and productive way to pass time.
Turn your phone off
Turning your phone off for a while can do wonders for your mental health. On bad days I tend to shut my phone off for at least an hour. Sometimes the whole night. This is a way for me to get away without really getting away. It’s so easy to get caught up in the internet world and social media. If you aren’t careful it can even be damaging to some.
Try a kickboxing class
This is sure way to blow off some steam. I used to do kickboxing and it made me feel good in so many ways. Not only was I burning over a thousand calories each class, but I was having so much fun while doing it. Unfortunately, I had to stop because at the time I was working 2 jobs and going to school. I had no time to go at all so I was basically wasting 80 dollars a month but if you have the time and funds, I highly recommend trying CKO Kickboxing.
Now I go to Planet Fitness whenever I get a chance and I absolutely love it there. Any type of activity and movement is a great way to feel better emotionally and physically. Remember in Greys Anatomy when Cristina and Meredith would always dance it out to feel better?
