I’TSUGAR! I Went to the American Dream Mall

So a while back before all the madness came about, my family and I visited the “infamous” American Dream Mall.

If you’re from New Jersey then you definitely know what I’m talking about. There was this huge project started a long time ago, maybe around 2009, and it was stalled due to bankruptcy. It was later bought by a different company and thus the American Dream Mall was made. It took years and years for this mall to be finished. I remember driving passed it wondering what the heck it was going to be.

I finally got to take a look inside! It wasn’t 100 percent finished yet but I was satisfied with what they did have so far. Because they had a 3 story candy store and anyone who knows me knows that’s heaven to me. I give you one of the biggest candy stores I have ever seen, IT’SUGAR!

Eager to go inside, I was quickly disappointed that only 1 floor was open but that was okay. I was able to try plenty of things and it was still a really fun experience.

When you walk in you immediately encounter jars of sweets. All different types of chocolates like dark, white, malt, and even alcohol flavored (21 and over, of course)! There were jars of licorice and more jawbreakers than I’d ever seen. I felt like I was in Willy Wonka in the Chocolate Factory or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Did you know those are some of my all-time favorite movies? There was even a cool path to match.

I was immediately drawn to the section that was stocked with amazing Japanese goodies. Ever since I started watching Emmymadeinjapan on Youtube, I’ve always been interested in trying some of these treats for myself. I was able to get a donut version of the Popin’  Cookin’ and a Hello Kitty Ramune Soda.

I also picked up some cotton candy, edible cookie dough, and a sour toilet bowl candy.  I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the toilet candy before I happily ate it. It came with a sour grape powder inside the toilet and a grape lollipop on the side to act as the plunger. Yummy, right?

I’ve tried some but I still have one more to open. I can’t wait to share my results! What’s your favorite treat?

  1. I’ve tried everything in the photo except the cookie dough. Is it actual cookie dough or cookie dough flavored candy? The Ramune soda is my favorite. The poppin’ cookin’ candy is weird… hardly edible but very fun to make. I had the sushi kit and my then boyfriend and I had fun making the candy sushi.

  2. It was actual cookie dough! Although I actually prefer the cookie dough you aren’t supposed to eat… The Ramune was delicious!! It was pretty cool trying to figure out how to open it. Oh man I cant wait for my first popin’ cookin’!
