TGIF everyone and welcome back to Mothers & Mental Health! It’s been quite some time but we’re back. I love doing these interviews and I appreciate you all for participating and following along with the series. Remember all are welcome to participate, moms, grandmas, legal guardians, stepmoms, anoymom’s (if you want to remain anonymous) you name it. We love to hear your story. Meet Samantha from New Jersey!

How are you feeling today mama?

After these past couple of weeks, I’m not sure what I’m feeling, I’m happy but it feels like something is missing. 

How many children do you have? 

I have two children, Jayden who is 4 years old and Noah who is 2 years old.

How old were you when you had your first child?

 Pregnant at 19.

Do you remember your initial reaction when you found out you were pregnant?

 I was honestly scared and nervous but mostly scared for others reactions. 

What first comes to mind when you think of mental health?

I feel like it’s something we can’t describe, it’s emotions and thoughts that are like a rollercoaster maybe even emptiness.

Do you suffer from any mental illnesses yourself? 

I was recently diagnosed with PTSD (something I usually haven’t spoken about) I also have anxiety and have suffered from depression before. 

How was your mental health before you became a mama? How has motherhood changed or improved your mental health?

Honestly it was rocky before I became a mom, but I was a very happy person and always closed off, but after I became a mom, I knew two little people loved me for who I am, the good, the bad. when we have those crying days hiding in the bathroom, and we remember those little eyes staring, it’s like you know everything is going to be alright. 

Do you self care? 

To be honest, I haven’t in 3 years, I’m so focused on everyone else that I forgot about myself. but I recently started, I’m working out, I’m reading books and also working on my skin.

There is no greater feeling than…

Hearing your children say I love you. 

Advice for other mamas?

Just know no matter what road you take, and when you feel like you’re all alone, your babies are right behind you, cheering you on and giving you that love you deserve. But, also remember to have days to yourself too.

& DONT FORGET…

Remember you’re important too, we need days to ourselves for our minds to relax.

Since Jayden is autistic, when he loves and shows affection and tries talking, Noah, I honestly think he’s going to be a boxer, but it’s cute!

Do you have a favorite restaurant?

Olive garden, oh how much I miss it.

What’s one thing you want to do when this pandemic ends? 

Take the exam and start working in a hospital!
