It’s so easy to create added stress in our lives. One of the ways we do this is by worrying about things we simply have no control over. I’ve pretty much learned the hard way by letting things that don’t matter get to my head. Which makes doing anything productive harder than it needs to be. Why? Because all of my focus was on something else. The sooner I got it through my thick skull, the smoother my thought process became.
What people think of you– You can’t make someone like you. You cant make someone have a certain opinion about you. It is what it is. At the end of the day, all that really matters is what you think of yourself.
The future– I find that I am talking to myself a lot more than usual. In a positive way of course. I always tell myself to live in the now. I can worry about what’s to come when it actually comes because it’s not like I can magically change destiny. Of course, it’s natural to want to control what’s going to happen. So I just say do the best you can to create the best outcome possible because that’s all you can do.
What other people do– This is a big one! I’ve also learned this the hard way but I’m glad I did. You cannot and I repeat CANNOT control what other people do. If someone wants to do something they are going to do it and you just have to accept that. In the long run, that person is doing what makes them happy and you are only causing more pain for yourself. Now I just stop and think to myself, is that person happy? Is this affecting me or my life in any way? Is someone in danger? No? Okay, so it’s not my problem.
I think as I get older, have more responsibilities, and continue to raise my little man, I realize that there are many more important things to worry about.
Harsh? Maybe, but someones got to say it. What did I miss? What are some other things that we can’t control? How do you handle it?
