The Antidote to Negative Emotion

Have you ever woken up and found that you were immediately triggered? Did you let that emotion dictate the rest of your day? I have and let me tell you… IT’S NOT WORTH IT. What I really needed to do was find a more productive way to carry on with my thoughts.

Gratitude is an antidote to negative emotions. Now, I’m most definitely not a doctor but I find that it works for me as well as many other people. When we express gratitude, we are forced to think about what we are thankful for and what makes us happy.

This has been the easiest and most natural remedy for me by far. I like to make my lists in the morning so that I have a positive start to my day. You can do this anywhere at any time at no cost. Today, I’m going to share with you some of the things that I’m grateful for.

♡ I’m grateful for waking up with a roof over my head in a warm room. My son can drink his milk and have a proper breakfast.

♡ I’m grateful for this strong dose of motivation so early in the morning. That way, I can get the day going and start in a more positive light.

♡ I’m grateful for healthier coping mechanisms, like writing in my journal. It’s not that easy for me to separate my emotions and acknowledge them without some consequences.

♡ I’m grateful for my family. I’m a pretty lucky girl to have such a close-knit line. We lift each other almost daily, and there’s never a moment where we feel like there’s someone we can’t go to.

♡ I’m grateful for my God. I always have someone to talk to in prayer. Getting back into Christianity has helped in so many ways from being able to ask God for guidance and getting an answer in a dream. Or, listening to a good worship song and feeling my body electrify.

♡ I’m grateful for the seasons. I mean come on; I can’t imagine living somewhere that doesn’t experience the full beauty of nature. Each day the trees get brighter and brighter… like my smile when I see them!

  1. I have definitely had days when I wake up triggered but you are so right, gratitude helps a lot! We all have things we wish were different but we’re also blessed in so many ways and it’s important to remember that 😊

  2. Gratitude is one of the highest frequencies for living, with the lowest being maybe guilt or shame. I really do feel much better with whatever emotions I have for the day once I switch my focus to gratitude instead of wishing for more. Anyway, thanks for this post!

  3. True. Sometimes negative emotions are easier for me to feel than positive ones. But, when I start to count my blessings, I become more grateful, and negative emotions just dissipate away.

It’s healthy to set our minds on what is good, excellent, and praiseworthy. 💗
